Flange Nut.  It is mainly used for pipe connection or need to increase the contact surface between Nut and workpiece.

One end has a wide flange that acts as a one-piece Washer.  This is used to distribute the pressure of the nut over the secured part, thus reducing the possibility of damaging the part and making it less likely to loosen due to an uneven tightening surface.  Most of these nuts are hexagonal, made of hardened steel, usually galvanized.

In many cases, the flange is fixed and turns with the nut.  Flanges can be serrated to provide locking.  The serration is angled so that the nut does not rotate in the direction of release.  They cannot be used with washers or on surfaces that are scratched due to serrations.  The serration helps prevent the vibration of the nut from making the fastener move, thereby maintaining the retaining force of the nut.

The self-aligning nut has a convex spherical flange that fits with a concave dishwasher to tighten the nut on a surface that is not perpendicular to the nut.
